Quick and Easy Puffy Pita Bread

Soft and puffy pita bread
Ingredients
  • 3 Cups Bread Flour (+ ¼ cup for rolling dough)
  • 1½ Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1⅛ Cup Warm Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2¼ Teaspoons Yeast
Instructions
  1. Warm 1⅛ Cup Water to 110 degrees.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and then stir in the honey.
  3. Leave to proof for 5 - 10 minutes.
  4. Place the bread flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  5. Stir in the salt. Make a well in the center of the flour.
  6. Once the yeast has proofed, pour the yeast into the well.
  7. Mix until thoroughly combined and then knead for 5 minutes.
  8. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and place in a warm place to rise for 20 minutes to 1 hour.
  9. Sprinkle a little flour over the risen dough and turn it out onto a work space.
  10. Roll the dough into a log and cut into 8 equal pieces.
  11. Shape into balls and cover with a clean towel to rest for about 30 minutes.
  12. Heat the oven to 500 degrees and place a small ovenproof dish filled with water in the bottom rack..
  13. Once your oven is hot, sprinkle your work surface with flour and roll each ball of dough out into a round shape. Place 3-4 pieces of dough on a baking rack and place into the oven.
  14. Bake for 5 minutes until puffed and golden.
  15. Continue cooking in this manner until all the pitas are cooked.
  16. Eat immediately or you can cool and store in a paper bag for a couple of days.
