Strawberry Guri Guri

Strawberry Guri Guri

I thought our Sunday dinner couldn’t get any better but boy was I wrong.  The cherry on top was actually the strawberry on top. . . as in Strawberry Guri Guri.   We filled our bellies with Boston Butt, corn, purple hull peas, sliced tomatoes and saffron infused ic pilav.  I made my basic ic pilav recipe but instead of water, I used saffron infused water.   I will have to post the recipe for that soon.   I just...

Homemade Milk Chocolate and Dark Cherry Ice Cream

Dark Cherry Milk Chocolate Ice Cream

Nothing says summertime like ice cream and cherries.  I had bought some gorgeous Bing Cherries at Wally World and I didn’t think they could be more delicious but I was so wrong.  I incorporated the cherries into my milk chocolate ice cream base and it was so good.  Silky, creamy, chocolatey, and velvety are just a few words that come to mind.  I got lucky the other day and found a Rival 2 quart ice cream maker for only $10.00...

Four Layer Brownies

Four Layer Brownies

I was wanting something sweet but not sure what I wanted.  So my mind began to think of different things that might taste good.  We used to make something called 7 Layer bars when I was a teenager and they were so good and pretty easy.  They called for graham crackers for the crust but I don’t normally keep graham crackers at home unless I am planning on making a cheesecake so that idea was out.  An idea popped into...

Fresh Strawberry & Peach Cobbler

After our appointment with the chiropractor last Thursday, my daughter, Stella and I stopped at the Attalla Farmer’s Market to pick up some fresh fruits and veggies.  Although there were only four vendors there this week, we got some really fresh and pretty produce.  We bought eggplant (the small variety I like), squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions and a watermelon.  Since we could not eat all the peaches before they were about to be over ripe, I decided to make  us...

Decadent Chocolate Cherry Cake

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you might remember that one of my best friends from High School, Angie aka Ange is a Valentine baby.  Since a few lucky people had Valentine’s Day plans, I decided to make my Decadent Chocolate Cherry Cake for Angie on Valentine’s Day Eve which this year happened to also be Friday the 13th.  Since she is a Valentine baby, I wanted to make something different from just a chocolate...

April’s Amazing Orange Walnut Christmas Cake

Well, we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner last night.  It was so nice spending time with my family and friends.  My daughter, Stella, her boyfriend, Chris, my sister, Kim, my brother, David, his son TJ, TJ’s wife Melissa, their son’s Nick and Jake, my sister/cousin Donna, my sister/friend Angie,  my brother/friend George and myself all enjoyed a wonderful meal.  We feasted on Prime Rib Roast, my sister, Kim’s to-die-for mashed potatoes and her yummy mushroom and onions in...

Ayva Tatlisi – Quince Dessert

One of my favorite Turkish Desserts is Ayva Tatlisi, also known as Quince Dessert.  It is a light dessert that is not too sweet.  I found these quince at the Buford Highway Farmer’s Market a couple of weeks ago when my sister and I went to Atlanta.  The kaymak, which is Turkish Cream, I found at Bakkal International, my favorite Turkish market.  I actually, made this a few weeks ago but unfortunately have just gotten around to posting the recipe....

Kabak Tatlısı (Pumpkin Dessert)

I love fall.  I love the weather. I love the gorgeous array of colors as the trees change from vibrant green to oranges, reds and finally rusty browns.  I love going to Mountain Top Flea Market and browsing for bargains.  Fall is the best time to go in my opinion because it is nice and cool.  While strolling up and down the rows last Sunday, I found these lovely pumpkins.  Which I knew would be perfect for Kabak Tatlısı...

Chocolate Cherry Delight à la mode

Who doesn’t love chocolate? I know I love it!  When I was pregnant with my daughter, way back in 1992, I practically lived off chocolate.  Her father is a pilot and every time he flew to a different country, he would always bring me chocolate back. Unfortunately,  I no longer have my own chocolate stash flown in to me from around the world.  Now days when I want chocolate, it is a Reese’s Cup or I have to make...

Peach Trifle

I didn’t mention yesterday “why” it had been so long since I had posted anything.  The main reason is because I do not like to complain. And while I don’t like to complain, I feel like I should explain why I haven’t been blogging as regularly as I would like to.  The fact is, I have been in excruciating hip pain for quite some time now.  One thing about me is I hate going to doctor’s.  Well, after some...

Tiramisu Cake

Dah, dah, dah, dah….. Finally, after over a month with no posts, I have managed to get this one finished.  So sorry it has been so long!  I hope the recipe I have for you today will make up for it though.  Once again, my best friend Angie is in the spotlight.  It was her birthday, well actually she is a Valentine baby so it was last week on the 14th.  Because I took my daughter to Kami-con Season...

Tropical Delight Cake

If you are looking for a nice Springtime dessert, this is the cake for you. My Tropical Delight Cake is rich in flavor but light and fluffy.  It is a versatile cake that could be topped with your family’s favorite fruit.  It would be beautiful topped with colored coconut for Easter.  It is super easy to make and if you make it for a dinner party or get together, your guest will be begging for the recipe!  Enjoy! Tropical Delight...
